Tuesday evening, 17 days after the tunnel collapsed, rescue workers in Uttarkashi successfully extracted all 41 trapped workers.
Before being transported home, the rescued workers will be kept under medical surveillance, according to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and none of them are in critical condition.
The workers were taken by ambulances to a hospital camp that was close by.
On November 28, following a protracted rescue effort that overcome multiple obstacles, all of the trapped construction workers emerged stunned and grinning. Happy workers were sent directly for a quick check-up with physicians, while locals, families, and officials chanted Bharat Mata ki Jai and burst into applause.
As the audience applauded, officials wore garlands around their necks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had phone conversations with every worker who was stranded. The Prime Minister praised the courageous actions and unwavering resolve of the rescuers in the Silkyara tunnel operation.
