A professor and five students from Savitribai Phule Pune University were arrested on charges of allegedly offending the religious sentiments of the Hindu community, as reported by the news agency PTI.
The arrests were made in connection with a play based on ‘Ramleela,’ which allegedly contained objectionable dialogues and scenes. A viral video depicting the play showcased a male artist, portraying Sita, smoking a cigarette and using abusive language, leading to the apprehension of the professor and five students from Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Dr. Pravin Bhole, the head of the Lalit Kala Kendra department, along with students Bhavesh Patil, Jay Pednekar, Prathamesh Sawant, Rishikesh Dalvi, and Yash Chikhle, have been arrested by the police in connection with the controversial play based on ‘Ramleela’ at Savitribai Phule Pune University.
