On Tuesday, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh experienced dense to very dense fog, resulting in cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in most areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, according to the Meteorological Department.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) classifies fog based on visibility ranges: ‘very dense’ occurs at 0 to 50 meters, ‘dense’ at 51 to 200 meters, ‘moderate’ within 201 to 500 meters, and ‘shallow’ in the range of 501 to 1,000 meters.
An official order from the district’s Basic Education Officer mandated the closure of all schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar for students up to class 8 until Tuesday, January 16.
The Punjab government has extended the closure of primary schools until January 21, while schools for other classes are set to resume normal operations starting January 15. Classes 6 to 12 have already commenced from January 15, with operating hours scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm.
