On June 28, the monsoon arrived in Delhi, bringing with it torrential rains that wreaked havoc across the city. The ceiling of Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport collapsed after a three-hour storm, causing airline operations to be disrupted and one fatality. The main weather station in the city, Safdarjung Observatory, recorded 228.1 mm of rain in the 24 hours that ended at 8:30 a.m. on June 28. This quantity is the most for the month in 88 years, since 1936, and more than three times the June rainfall normal of 74.1 mm.
