ISRO set for a historic launch from Sriharikota

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the early hours of Wednesday (January 29, 2025) will oversee the historic 100th launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota with the GSLV-F15 mission.

According to the space agency, the first launch, which took place on August 10, 1979, was an experimental flight of Satellite Launch Vehicle-3 (SLV-3 E10) with the Rohini Technology Payload. It was only partially successful. The mission was directed by the late former Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who was working with ISRO at the time. A year later, on July 18, 1980, Dr. Kalam and ISRO officials enjoyed success with the SLV-3E2 as the Rohini satellite, RS-1, was launched into orbit.
