ISRO Chief Celebrates Success: Aditya L1 Enters Halo Orbit, Marking the End of a Lengthy Journey

ISRO’s chief, S Somanath, described the successful placement of the Aditya-L1 spacecraft into its designated orbit as the “culmination of a lengthy journey.” He acknowledged the anxious moments but expressed confidence in the mission’s success, emphasizing its complexity and the agency’s precise handling of challenges.

S Somanath stated, “From lift-off to this moment, spanning 126 days, the spacecraft has now reached its ultimate destination. The final stage is always nerve-wracking, but our confidence in the mission’s success proved well-founded. We are delighted with the outcome as anticipated.”

Initiated in September of the previous year, the mission’s objective is to explore the photosphere, chromosphere, and the Sun’s outermost layers, the corona. It seeks to gather essential data for comprehending particle dynamics originating from the Sun, exploring the physics of the solar corona, and analyzing plasma temperatures, velocity, and density within corona loops. Additionally, the mission aims to identify processes across different layers leading to solar eruptive events and investigate magnetic field topology.
