India Hits Back Hard to Strike Down Cross-Border Terrorism

India-Pakistan tensions spiked late on May 8 and into May 9 after a series of cross-border drone and missile attacks. In a joint press briefing on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), along with Army and Navy officials, outlined India’s military response under Operation Sindoor.

Pakistani forces launched a coordinated assault using drones and missiles on Indian military bases in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Affected regions included RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, and Hiranagar in Jammu, as well as Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. India’s air defence systems, including the S-400, intercepted most threats, preventing major damage.

Indian defence units reported thwarting a major drone offensive on Thursday night. Over 50 Pakistani drones were shot down in Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot during a large-scale counter-drone operation.

In retaliation, India carried out precise strikes on Pakistani military assets, including air defence systems in Lahore. Multiple Pakistani jets—F-16s and JF-17s—launched from Sargodha Air Base were reportedly downed. The strikes aimed to neutralise terror infrastructure and discourage further hostilities.

According to India’s DGMOs, Operation Sindoor, initiated on May 7, targeted nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Over 100 militants were eliminated, including those linked to the IC814 hijacking and the Pulwama attack.

Indian forces remain on high alert, conducting continuous aerial surveillance across the borders. Officials stressed that the strikes were a measured response to ongoing cross-border provocations and terrorist threats.
