Private weather agency Skymet announced on Tuesday that the monsoon in India is forecasted to be normal this year, with rainfall expected to be around 102 percent of the long period average (LPA) during the four-month period from June to September. The Meteorological Department (IMD) also considers rainfall between 96 to 104 percent as average or normal. The LPA for the four-month monsoon season is 868.6 mm. Skymet further stated that central and western parts of India can expect above-normal rainfall, while northern and southern parts will likely experience normal rainfall. Conversely, northeastern India and eastern parts may experience less than normal rainfall.
The agency forecasts normal rainfall in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. However, there is a possibility of below-normal rainfall in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.
