Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to India, the foreign ministry announced that France and India would collaborate on the development of small modular nuclear reactors.
The significance of nuclear energy for “strengthening energy security” and moving towards a “low-carbon economy” was emphasized by both Modi and French President Benjamin Macron.
It comes days after Delhi declared its intention to amend its stringent nuclear liability law, which has been held responsible for delays in earlier nuclear projects and makes operators liable for mishaps or accidents.
During his visit to Washington on Thursday, Modi is also anticipated to talk about possible nuclear investments by US companies.
