A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify and reach the Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts as a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday evening, May 26, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This is the first cyclone in the Bay of Bengal for this pre-monsoon season and will be named Remal, following the naming system for cyclones in the Indian Ocean region.
Models suggest that the cyclone will not affect the progress of the monsoon, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Despite the cyclone’s development, the monsoon is expected to advance as per the usual timeline.
