Official sources have confirmed that the historic Red Fort complex, which was closed to visitors about a week ago due to security concerns amid a farmers’ march, has been reopened.
“It was reopened a couple of days ago,” stated a source at the Archaeological Survey of India to PTI. However, it’s worth noting that the Red Fort is typically closed for visitors on Mondays, so access to the complex will not be available on February 19th.
Thousands of farmers are currently encamped at the Shambhu and Khanauri points along the Punjab-Haryana border. Despite facing multiple layers of barricades and a significant presence of security personnel, they continue to be stationed there, halting their march towards the national capital.
There were no reports of any confrontation between the protesters and Haryana security personnel on Saturday. Farmer leaders have urged the protesters to remain calm and peaceful at the borders.
