Officials reported that a 63- year- old farmer, who was taking part in the protests at the Shambhu border near Haryana’s Ambala, passed away on 16 February due to a heart attack, as per information provided by news agency PTI.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha had called for the march, which commenced on 13 February. Since then, farmers have been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Punjab and Haryana. Today, security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse protesting farmers at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu Border.
The farmers have demanded the scrapping of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2020. Additionally, they have called for providing 200 days of employment per year and a daily wage of ₹700 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), linking it with farming.
